Mozilla Unveils Project Nova for Firefox Redesign

The redesign prioritizes visual consistency, replacing sharp edges with bubble-like tabs and updated icons that adapt to both light and dark themes. Beyond aesthetics, the interface overhaul aims to improve functionality by reintroducing compact mode, which condenses navigation buttons to save space. Users will also gain more intuitive access to advanced tab management tools, including vertical tabs and split-view options.

Privacy remains a core pillar of the update. Mozilla is consolidating settings to ensure users can easily identify or disable AI models. Unlike competitors that may force large background downloads, Firefox allows users to monitor and manage the storage footprint of any AI features they choose to install. This shift toward granular control is paired with broader customization options, including browser-wide color themes and potential user-defined shapes for UI elements.

While Project Nova approaches, Mozilla has already pushed out Firefox 151. This release introduces support for the Web Serial API, allowing websites to communicate directly with hardware without requiring external software. The latest version also adds utility features to the browser’s native PDF viewer, enabling users to merge documents directly within the interface, alongside new home page designs and wallpapers.
