Gold prices are finding renewed momentum as expectations for Federal Reserve rate hikes soften and geopolitical tensions drive investors toward safe-haven assets. While the metal struggled through the first half of 2026 due to climbing inflation-adjusted yields, global demand remains a pillar of support. Asian investors, in particular, have bucked the trend of broader market skepticism, maintaining aggressive purchasing patterns even as spot prices dipped elsewhere.
Wells Fargo Maintains Bullish Gold Outlook Amid Market Volatility
Despite a turbulent year for precious metals, Wells Fargo Investment Institute remains optimistic, projecting gold to reach $4,900 by 2026. Strategists argue that resilient international demand and persistent central bank purchasing power are effectively offsetting the pressure of rising U.S. interest rates and short-term market corrections.

Sameer Samana, head of global equities and real assets strategy at Wells Fargo, suggests that much of the downside risk is already priced in. Although he warns that technical resistance could emerge between $4,500 and $4,900 and that a temporary drop toward $3,500 is possible, the long-term cycle remains intact. According to Samana, the current risk-reward profile has shifted favorably, as gold serves as a vital hedge during periods when both stocks and bonds falter. As the economic cycle eventually triggers a slowdown, he expects policymakers to pivot, ultimately reinforcing gold’s role as essential portfolio insurance.
