The device features a clever magnetic design compatible with MagSafe, allowing it to snap directly onto the back of an iPhone or other smartphones. Beyond its role as a drive, it offers a 4K 144Hz HDMI 2.1 output, a 5Gbps USB-A port, and dual SD and microSD card readers. Users can install M.2 2280, 2242, or 2230 SSDs, supporting up to 8TB of storage. During testing, the unit successfully drove a MacBook Pro, providing an external monitor connection, multiple storage sources, and 80W of USB-C passthrough charging.
While the 10Gbps enclosure is not the fastest on the market, it balances utility with portability. Sharge offers two models: the Ultra, which optimizes for low power consumption, and the Lite, which handles more power-hungry configurations. The Ultra's efficiency requires careful management; during intensive tasks like 4K60 ProRes recording on an iPhone 15 Pro, the drive may shut down if it exceeds its 3W power allocation for the SSD. Plugging in an external battery effectively resolves this, maintaining stable performance for demanding workflows.
