The latest quarterly report reveals a net operating profit of $1.5 billion, bolstered by a robust portfolio of U.S. Treasuries and repo performance. Tether’s total bullion stash is now valued at approximately $18.8 billion, accounting for roughly 10% of the firm's $187.8 billion reserve base. This strategic shift underscores the company's efforts to diversify its holdings beyond traditional digital assets, even as it maintains a dominant 60% share of the stablecoin market.
Tether Aggressively Expands Gold Reserves as Profits Hit $1.5 Billion
Tether has firmly established itself as a heavyweight in the physical bullion market, securing an additional 14 tonnes of gold during the second quarter. This move brings the stablecoin issuer’s total holdings to over 146 tonnes, positioning the company as a private entity with reserves rivaling those of global central banks.

CEO Paolo Ardoino highlighted that the company’s reserves currently exceed its liabilities by $4.11 billion, providing a buffer against market volatility. While the firm remains a major buyer of U.S. government debt, its 14-tonne gold acquisition represents nearly 5% of total official-sector demand for the quarter. By reducing secured lending by $2.38 billion and focusing on high-quality liquid assets, Tether aims to ensure liquidity for its users throughout varying economic cycles. The company’s growing gold footprint signals a broader trend of private digital asset firms exerting significant influence over global precious metal supplies.
