Robert Thorogood

Robert Thorogoodis an English screenwriter and Sunday Times and USA Today bestselling novelist best known as the creator of the BBC One murder mystery series Death in Paradise. The long-running crime drama, set on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie and filmed in Guadeloupe, became a major international success and one of the BBC’s most enduring scripted exports.

Building on that success, Thorogood went on to co-create two spin-offs from the franchise: Beyond Paradise, which follows fan-favourite detective Humphrey Goodman in a new setting, and Return to Paradise, further expanding the brand’s global footprint.

Alongside his television work, Thorogood has established a strong reputation in publishing. He is the author of The Marlow Murder Club series, a bestselling collection of mystery novels that he later adapted for television. The series was developed for PBS in the United States and UKTV in Britain, reinforcing his growing presence across both literary and screen audiences.

In 2012, Thorogood received France Film’s “En Route to France” award, recognising emerging filmmaking talent and further cementing his standing within the international television industry.
