Freddie Starr

Freddie Starrwas an English stand-up comedian, impressionist, singer and actor who became one of Britain’s best-known entertainers during the 1970s and 1980s.

He began his career in music as the lead vocalist of the Merseybeat rock and roll band the Midniters in the early 1960s before moving into comedy.

He gained national attention in the early 1970s through appearances on Opportunity Knocks and the Royal Variety Performance, where his energetic style, impressions and unpredictable humour helped establish him as a major television personality. During the 1990s, Starr fronted several programmes of his own, including Freddie Starr from 1993 to 1994 and The Freddie Starr Show from 1996 to 1998. He also appeared in two editions of An Audience with... in 1996 and 1997. In 1999, he hosted the game show Beat the Crusher.
