A day after launching its Kickstarter campaign, the Enough Phone had raised more than half of its $250,000 goal. The small Android handset is being developed by Brennan Jordan and Austin Boer, who say customers want a less bulky device to match their minimalist software.
The target specifications include a 5.3-inch display, a user-replaceable 3,500mAh battery, a MediaTek Dimensity 7500 chipset, a 50-megapixel Sony rear camera sensor and 8GB of RAM. Dimensions listed on Kickstarter suggest a size similar to the iPhone Mini. Jordan and Boer are former Mini users themselves.
The pair cofounded Sleke, a software startup that sells refurbished phones running OdysseyOS, its minimalist version of Android. Loading the software onto existing phones supports sustainability and gets it to market faster, Boer said. Sleke currently offers small batches of Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 phones, but some customers have told the company they do not want a large handset for a minimalist operating system.
The idea for a smaller device gained momentum after Will Stults approached the founders. He runs the non-smartphone store Dumbwireless and has experience with smartphone manufacturing, including work for a large phone brand.
The company is seeking to keep the operation self-funded, Boer said, so it can set its own priorities. Supply pressures have driven up costs and made RAM scarce. Early Kickstarter backers can get discounts; the phone is expected to retail for $599 afterward. Boer said outside investment could put pressure on the company to reduce costs or shorten its promised five years of software support.
The project is in the production tooling phase, according to Kickstarter, with shipments planned for May 2027. The campaign warns that RAM shortages and their effects across electronics manufacturing could cause delays. The small-phone market has few current options: Apple has not released an iPhone Mini in five years, Asus enlarged the Zenfone and stopped selling it in the US, and the Unihertz Jelly Max offers lower specifications than a modern midrange phone. Boer said the lack of competition makes this a difficult but promising time to start.
