The update follows the launch of Microsoft’s Xbox Ally handheld devices last year, which highlighted how much work remained to make the PC app feel like a console experience on Windows. The redesigned app simplifies navigation for controller use and adds updated library filters and new ways to organize installed games. Friends now appear on the main page, with shortcuts to chat or join a party; Microsoft has also refreshed game cards, Home, Settings and animations.
Jason Beaumont, vice president of Xbox experiences, said Home, Store and Game Pass pages load up to 50 percent faster, while in-app windows open up to 65 percent faster. The writer who tested the app over several weeks said it felt noticeably quicker across a range of devices and easier to navigate with a controller. They also noted that the Game Bar interface on handhelds now feels out of step with the redesign; further updates are expected in the coming months.
