Gold Holds $4,000 Threshold Despite Robust US Jobs Data

Gold prices are maintaining a position above $4,000 an ounce, defying potential selling pressure after ADP reported the US economy added 86,000 private-sector jobs in October. The figures comfortably surpassed consensus forecasts of 67,000, signaling a resilient labor market that continues to challenge the precious metal's recent rally.

Gold Holds $4,000 Threshold Despite Robust US Jobs Data

The October employment data reveals a labor market displaying solid growth for the second consecutive month. ADP Chief Economist Dr. Nela Richardson noted that hiring occurred across firms of all sizes, fueled by a combination of overtime, bonuses, and increased hours. For workers changing jobs, earnings growth reached its fastest pace since March 2024, maintaining steady upward pressure on pay.

Despite the strength of the labor data, spot gold traded at $4,037.70 an ounce, marking a gain of more than 2% for the day. Market participants appear to be prioritizing political volatility over economic indicators; the precious metal surged above the $4,000 mark overnight following midterm election results that saw the Democratic Party regain control of Congress. This political shift remains the primary driver of market sentiment, overshadowing the cooling yet still-strong momentum seen in the private sector payroll figures.
