These search-based ads function on contextual relevance, surfacing products linked to the user's input. While Reddit already populates feeds and individual threads with sponsored posts, videos, and promoted AMAs, search results remained one of the few ad-free zones on the site. Reddit Expands Advertising Into Search Results
Users searching for content on Reddit will soon encounter sponsored material integrated directly into their query results. The company is piloting a system that matches advertisements to specific search terms, ranging from consumer goods like espresso machines to office furniture, marking another shift in how the platform monetizes its massive repository of community conversations.

This move follows a series of aggressive platform changes intended to tighten control over user data and revenue streams. Recently, the company restricted access to "Old Reddit" and moved to block AI scrapers by requiring users to be logged in to view content. These strategic pivots have faced investor scrutiny, with the company's stock price dropping 29 percent following the announcement of the new access policies.
