Harry Dent: Why I’m selling my home before the bubble bursts

Harry Dent, a long-time market analyst known for his contrarian forecasts, is liquidating his primary residence in anticipation of a historic collapse. Arguing that stocks, real estate, and even gold have inflated into a singular, unsustainable bubble, Dent warns that homeowners should divest from their most valuable properties before values crater.

Dent, founder of HS Dent, contends that the market rally since 2009 represents the longest bubble in history. His strategy focuses on offloading assets with the highest equity, as he believes these carry the most significant potential for loss. While current housing data shows a 7.3% decline in existing home contracts and a rise in failed deals, prices remain sticky due to owners locked into lower mortgage rates. Dent insists this standoff is temporary and that demographic shifts—specifically the aging of the baby boomer generation—will leave a permanent dent in real estate demand for decades to come.

Beyond property, Dent has shed his gold holdings, projecting a 60% to 70% correction for the metal. He views long-term U.S. Treasuries as the only viable refuge, anticipating that a sharp downturn will force interest rates down and drive bond prices higher. While he plans to capitalize on the initial market drop by shorting the Nasdaq 100, his broader outlook remains grim. He expects a period of deflation lasting over a decade, leaving little room for traditional assets to recover until the cycle fully resets.
