The overhaul signals a shift toward a more modern, lightweight approach. By moving to WinUI 3, the company reports substantial gains in memory efficiency and execution speed, avoiding the common pitfall of adding bloat to improve functionality. Beyond the technical underpinnings, the interface introduces a large preview pane and fluid animations, creating a more responsive feel that mirrors the search behaviors found in mobile operating systems like iOS and Android.
Microsoft Overhauls Windows Search for Speed and Clarity
“This new Windows Search experience is built for speed,” says Anshul Rawat, corporate vice president of the Windows product team. Microsoft is finally addressing the long-standing frustrations surrounding its search interface, rolling out a redesigned version currently in testing that focuses on WinUI 3 architecture and refined performance.

Improvements extend to the logic behind the queries. Rawat notes that the system now features better matching for synonyms and typos, refining how the machine interprets user intent. During a demonstration at the recent Windows and Surface event, the interface displayed results inline rather than forcing a delay to load miniature web pages. By surfacing information directly, the tool moves away from the sluggish, disconnected experience that defined previous versions of Windows 11.
