Google unveils universal Gemini agent for enterprise workflows

Google is introducing a universal AI agent designed to bridge the gap between disparate enterprise applications, allowing users to delegate complex tasks across Gmail, Drive, and third-party platforms like Slack. The tool aims to function as an autonomous coworker, maintaining persistent context across mobile, desktop, and web interfaces.

This new integration, unveiled at the Gemini at Work event, shifts the focus from simple chatbot interactions to background task execution. By assigning the agent a unique identity with a dedicated email address, organizations can deploy it as a distinct team member capable of utilizing specialized sub-agents. The system dynamically selects the most appropriate AI model for each specific assignment, ensuring efficiency regardless of the complexity of the request.

While currently restricted to enterprise customers in private preview, the development signals a move toward a centralized digital workspace. Unlike the existing consumer-facing Gemini Spark, which operates within its own siloed interface, this version is engineered to stitch together workflows across Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. The cloud-based architecture ensures that user context remains consistent, whether the instructions are issued from a smartphone or a desktop terminal.
