Garman claims that misinformation campaigns are actively seeding public distrust to slow American progress. In a lengthy manifesto, he warns that the current trend of blocking facility construction threatens long-term economic stability and national security. Amazon warns of national security risks as data center pushback grows
As local moratoriums on data centers spread across the United States, Amazon Web Services CEO Matt Garman is framing the resistance as a dangerous geopolitical vulnerability. He argues that stalling infrastructure projects to appease community concerns could effectively hand the lead in the global artificial intelligence race to foreign adversaries.

To address the growing backlash, Amazon has introduced a new "Data Center Commitment." This policy pledges to protect local energy rates and includes a $1 billion investment fund for neighboring communities. The company is also abandoning its use of nondisclosure agreements with government agencies, a practice previously criticized by lawmaker Jamie Raskin. David Zapolsky, the company's legal chief, acknowledged that the industry's historical reliance on shadow deals was a reflexive error that no longer aligns with the necessity of open community dialogue.
