The hardware overhaul centers on a thinner chassis and a 30 percent improvement in book-opening speeds. Amazon has relocated the power button from the bottom edge to the right side, addressing long-standing complaints about accidental presses. Beyond the internals, the devices now feature soft-touch plastics in bold colors, alongside an aluminum finish option that doubles storage capacity to 32GB for a premium price point of $189.99.
Amazon Refreshes Kindle Lineup With Color Options and Hardware Tweaks
Amazon is rolling out its next generation of e-readers today, introducing a faster processor, a refined ergonomic design, and a vibrant aesthetic shift. The update spans the base Kindle, Paperwhite, and the new Colorsoft models, marking a departure from the company’s typically iterative hardware cycles with a focus on premium materials.

Kevin Keith, Amazon’s VP of Kindle, confirmed that these models include user-replaceable batteries to satisfy evolving European Union regulations. The entry-level Kindle, priced at $149.99, is available in a new purple hue labeled ube. While the screen design remains largely consistent, the transition between the bezel and display is now seamless, moving away from the recessed look of previous generations. These refinements aim to bridge the gap between utilitarian e-readers and high-end consumer electronics.
