KitchenAid Overhauls Iconic Mixer With Precision Speed Control

For the first time since 1955, KitchenAid has fundamentally reengineered its stand mixer to trade rigid presets for fluid, granular control. The new Artisan Plus model replaces mechanical detents with a microcontroller-based system, allowing bakers to bypass standard speed settings for precise, custom motor adjustments during delicate mixing tasks.

The core of this upgrade lies in a redesigned control lever. By rotating a knob on the lever’s end, users can disengage the traditional 11 speed presets, enabling the mechanism to slide smoothly across the scale. This shift from electromechanical components to a Hall effect sensor allows for an additional half-speed setting, providing better control when folding fragile ingredients like egg whites or berries.

Beyond speed, the $599.99 appliance introduces a dedicated LED light calibrated to highlight ingredient texture, alongside a new silicone-edged beater. The mixer’s onboard electronics are designed to detect the increased friction from this attachment, automatically boosting motor power to maintain consistent speed. Available starting today at retailers including Williams Sonoma, the unit comes in 15 color options, ranging from classic shades to new additions like iron ore bronze and wild blueberry.
