The rollout begins later this year in Dallas-Fort Worth, an existing Zipline hub. Following this launch, the service will expand to dozens of additional cities. Zipline brings significant experience to the collaboration, having completed two million deliveries across markets including Rwanda, Japan, and Ghana since its 2016 inception. By utilizing drones capable of reaching front lawns in minutes, Uber intends to match orders with the most efficient delivery method available based on customer location.
Uber and Zipline Launch Drone Delivery Partnership
Uber is integrating Zipline’s aerial fleet into its Eats platform, aiming to reach one million daily drone deliveries by 2029. This partnership, bolstered by a strategic investment, signals a shift toward automated logistics as the ride-hailing giant seeks to dominate the last-mile delivery market through a hybrid network of human and robotic couriers.

This move intensifies the competition for the autonomous delivery sector, which analysts project could reach a $7.7 billion valuation by 2031. While Uber maintains its strategy of partnering with third-party operators like Zipline and Flytrex, competitors such as DoorDash are pursuing proprietary drone programs following recent Federal Aviation Administration rule changes. These regulatory shifts, accelerated by a 2025 executive order, have triggered a rush among retailers to secure infrastructure partnerships before the market fully matures.
