HSBC Insurance Chief Moncreiffe Set to Depart Bank

After two decades at HSBC, global insurance head Edward Moncreiffe is preparing to exit the lender for external opportunities. His departure, slated for September, follows a broader pattern of high-level staff turnover as the bank pushes ahead with a sweeping corporate overhaul aimed at cutting costs and streamlining operations.

Moncreiffe, who assumed his current role at the Asia-focused institution earlier this year, has not publicly confirmed his plans. A spokesperson for the bank in Hong Kong declined to comment on the matter. Sources familiar with the internal transition suggest that HSBC intends to split the leadership of the insurance business between two executives following his departure.

This exit joins a growing list of senior leadership changes under group CEO Georges Elhedery, who took the helm in 2024 with a mandate to focus on wealth growth and divest from sub-scale divisions. Recent departures include Gerry Keefe, the former head of banking for Europe and the Americas, as well as cash equities trading leads James Grafton and Steve Jobber. Lisa McGeough, the bank's former U.S. banking chief, also left the organization last September.
