Meanwhile, the energy sector outperformed with a 1.1% gain, fueled by Brent crude futures holding near weekly highs.
Optimism regarding a potential U.S.-Iran arrangement, signaled by Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif, struggled to buoy the broader market. Ron Albahary, chief investment officer at LNW, noted that investors remain overly optimistic about the durability of such diplomatic shifts. Financial markets are now bracing for consumer and producer price readings, which will be instrumental in determining whether the Federal Reserve opts for a rate hike in September or a pause.
