Shein Targets August Hong Kong IPO Amid Valuation Reset

Fast-fashion giant Shein is preparing to launch a long-awaited initial public offering in Hong Kong as early as August 19, according to three people familiar with the matter. The Singapore-based retailer has spent the current week marketing the share sale to potential investors, signaling a critical move for the e-commerce firm.

Shein Targets August Hong Kong IPO Amid Valuation Reset

The company is seeking a valuation between $30 billion and $40 billion, a significant downward adjustment from its peak. In 2022, private fundraising rounds valued the business at $98.2 billion, a figure that slipped to $64 billion by early 2024. This reset reflects a challenging period for the retailer, which has faced slowing revenue growth and compressed margins due to rising trade costs and increased regulatory scrutiny.

Operational headwinds have intensified as the company grapples with a recent $99 million quarterly loss, exacerbated by the removal of U.S. import duty exemptions on small packages and fair-value charges related to preferred shares. Despite these financial pressures, Shein continues to command a massive global footprint, selling low-cost apparel to consumers across 160 countries. The firm did not respond to requests for comment regarding the impending IPO timeline.
