By committing to the AM5 desktop motherboard socket through 2029, the company offers a rare guarantee for PC enthusiasts: the ability to swap in new processors for the remainder of the decade without the frustration of a motherboard replacement. This approach directly challenges the rapid-fire upgrade cadence that often defines the desktop market.

For those still clinging to the older AM4 platform, AMD is marking its 10th anniversary with a special edition Ryzen 7 5800X3D, arriving June 25th for $349. Simultaneously, the company is expanding its lineup with the $330 Ryzen 7 7700X3D. While these chips rely on proven architecture rather than cutting-edge innovation, they emphasize efficiency and sustained performance over the incremental gains of newer, power-hungry models.

Not every announcement focuses on longevity, however. AMD is bringing its Radeon RX 9070 GRE—previously a China-exclusive—to the global market on June 1st. Priced at $549, the card faces a skeptical reception, as the market expected higher performance tiers at that price point.
